Cats, Cats, Cats. How To Care For Them All

Cats are one of many animals that clean themselves. Although this works for the cat in many instances, there is only so much that cat can do. You have to step in and groom the cat to keep it healthy. Here are some useful grooming techniques to use on your cat.

Keep your drape cords away from your cats. Cats love to play with hanging cords and this poses the threat of your cat hurting themselves or becoming entangled. This is an extreme choking hazard and should be prevented at all costs. Secure your cords so they are out of the way and out of sight.

Play with your cat using proper cat toys. Cats love toys that help them feel like the predators that they think they are. Try sticking with toys that help them dance around or jump. This can also help them use extra energy by pouncing on toys instead of people’s feet.

If your dog and cat are best friends, be sure to keep them separate after flea treatment. Your dog’s flea products are very hazardous for cats. Cats that come in contact with dog flea products often die. Be sure to use only cat products on your cat and only dog products on your dog.

You might find that your cat sleeps all day and wants to be active at night. They are often active at nighttime. Shut the door to your bedroom. This helps to muffle the sounds of nighttime play. This will keep the cats away while you’re trying to sleep because they won’t be jumping all over you.

If you take your cat with you when you travel, be mindful of their ears. They don’t want to hear you singing at the top of your lungs. Keep your music off, and talk to your cat instead.

Consider getting your cat a scratching post. Scratching is something that comes extremely easy to cats; it is part of their nature. Don’t force your cat to play with it. Rather, interest him in it by spraying catnip spray on it, or by dangling a string from the top. Soon he’ll get the idea that it’s there for a reason.

When training a cat, take the proper approach. Encouragement works better than anger. If you are trying to teach a kitten to use a litterbox, for instance, yelling will only frighten a small cat. When the cat starts to go outside the box, gently place them in the box so they learn.

To make sure your kitten is properly socialized to humans, begin early in his life, about ten to twelve weeks of age. Be sure that he is handled and petted by humans in his family and by others as well. When he is older, he will be a calmer, friendlier cat.

A cat that is clean and well groomed will be happy, healthy, and good looking. Remember, the cat can’t do all of the grooming work. It’s up to you to give it a little extra help. Use as many of the provided grooming techniques on your cat and see how good it looks.
