Cats are unrivaled among animals and can be terrific pets. Cats are energetic and a constant source of information. They’re also excellent defenders against household pests, like mice. People often underestimate how helpful a kitty can be, and how much one can do to get rid of pests.
If your cat is picky about drinking water, invest in a cat fountain. These battery operated or plug in fountains keep water circulating and aerated. Many cats prefer this. A cat fountain will help keep your cat out of the kitchen sink and the toilet. It will also help prevent your cat from pawing water onto the floor in search of fresh water.
Do not allow your cat to get an electrical shock. Spray them with bitter apple, and they will stay away. If your cat still prefers to chew on cords, then you have to make sure they stay covered. You can bundle loose cords into paper towel rolls that are old. Any electrical cords that are really thin (and very tempting) should really be hidden whenever possible.
Feed your cat a proper diet. Cats are carnivores and have specific dietary needs. Feed them quality cat food that has been approved by AAFCO or the Association of American Feed Control Officials. If you wish to make your cat’s food yourself, make sure you speak with a vet about necessary supplements or specific recipes that your cat needs to eat.
Don’t let your cat’s days pass without stimulation and excitement. Every cat needs exercise time and play. Unfortunately, a lot of cat owners neglect this. Cats who get bored can actually become depressed or display other undesirable behaviors. Therefore, ensure your cat has enough space for exercising and playing. Be sure your cat has something they can climb and something they can scratch if they stay inside.
The correct location is important when picking a spot for a cat’s litter box. Put the litter box in a secluded area, and make sure that it is not near the cat’s food. To prevent a strong stench, be sure this space is well-ventilated. Your cat will be more comfortable and you will too.
Be especially mindful of your cat’s ears when you take them on a trip. You may enjoy it, but it could be hurting your cat’s ears. Reduce the volume of the music and keep the windows up; let your cat rest.
If you going to be gone for more than a day, you should have someone look in on your cat. Leave out plenty of food, but have someone come to make sure it doesn’t run out. If you do not have a neighbor or family to look in on your cat, you can usually find a cat sitter for a few dollars each day.
Cats are excellent for controlling rodent problems and help deter other pests from moving in. You should consider getting a cat if you do not already have one. The continuing popularity of the humble house cat is no surprise when one considers all that they’re capable of.
